Head of the Main Directorate for Road Traffic Safety Victor Nilov about arrangements for the VI International Congress Road Safety for the Safety of Life

The main subject is The Role of Civil Society in the Improvement of Road Safety.

In his interview to newspaper STOP-gazeta Victor Nilov said: Whether we want it or not, but these are citizens, who assess road safety, not just statistics. That is why when making arrangements for the Congress together with the Organizing Committee we came to a conclusion that it was an interesting subject that deserved our attention. And we took it into account when preparing for the round tables. Probably our experience in monitoring regional situations is not that wide, but it proves that the subject attracts more and more attention of the wide audience. The opinion poll on the site of the Ministry of Home Affairs also proves that 60% of people are concerned about the road safety.

It would be appropriate to discuss real projects and real practices in the regions and at the municipal level and to find out which of them are successful.

The Congress will take place on 28 – 30 September 2016. It will be the venue for exhibitions and presentations devoted to road safety.

Thematic round tables and the plenary session will be held on 29 – 30 September. They will focus on legislative measures and the involvement of civil society in pursuing road safety policies; partnership of public authorities, businesses and civil society and joining their resources in improving road safety; road haulage and road management under public scrutiny; raising legal awareness among citizens.

The Congress will be attended by heads of public authorities of all levels, representatives of local governments, members of international transport organizations, road safety organizations, educational and health care institutions, research and expert organizations, professional associations and mass media.
