Inter-Parliamentary Union to elect new President in October at the Tavricheskiy Palace

In October 2017, the 137th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) will be held at the headquarters of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States in the Tavricheskiy Palace. IPU was established in 1889 and currently includes 170 Members. The decision to host the 137th IPU was Assembly in St. Petersbyrg was taken by the IPU Governing Council on the final day of the meetings of the 135th IPU Assembly in Geneva.

The session will elect the new president of the IPU and adopt a resolution"On the 20th anniversary of the Universal Declaration on Democracy: commonality of our diversity" initiated by the Russian delegation. Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Ilyas Umakhanov will report on the resolution.

The next IPU President should continue the constructive and meaningful work of the incumbent President Saber Chowdhury with all member parliaments based on the principles of equality, respect for sovereignty and mutual interests, stressed member of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Political Issues and International Cooperation, Chair of the International Affairs Committee of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Konstantin Kosachev.
