It is easier to face challenges together – results of the 25 years of CIS activities

In late 1991, the Belavezha Accords was signed bringing the USSR to a demise. It was a difficult period of geopolitical change, and at that time 25 years ago a decision was made to form the Commonwealth of Independent States and sign the Alma-Ata Declaration. Since its establishment, the Commonwealth has contributed to the development of equitable political dialogue and building of a new mechanism of trade and economic cooperation, humanitarian partnership and security cooperation.

Over the years the Commonwealth has evolved into a unique, universal and unparalleled organization. The inherent principles of the CIS predetermined its relevance and the constructive role in the system of international relations.
