Meeting of Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives of CIS Member Nations Took Place in Minsk

A meeting of the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives of the CIS Member Nations at the Statutory and other Bodies of the Commonwealth took place in Minsk (Republic of Belarus). The event was held using videoconferencing between the CIS headquarters in Minsk and the CIS Executive Committee Office in Moscow.

The meeting was attended by representatives of all Commonwealth countries, except for Ukraine. It was chaired by Plenipotentiary Representative of the Republic of Uzbekistan at the Statutory and other Bodies of the Commonwealth, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Republic of Belarus Nasirjan Yusupov.

During the meeting, the draft agenda of the upcoming meeting of the Council of the CIS Heads of Government scheduled for 29 May in Tashkent was discussed.

The members of the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives were also informed about the results of activity of the CIS bodies of sectoral cooperation in 2019.

Special emphasis was put on the importance of contributing to the fulfilment of the Action Plan for implementation of the Concept of Chairmanship of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the CIS in 2020, as well as of the Action Plan for the preparation and celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

The participants considered the Report on the activities of the CIS Intergovernmental Board on Agriculture and Food Processing.

In the face of the coronavirus pandemic, the Council was recommended to strengthen coordination of joint actions aimed at reliable provision of foodstuffs to the population of the CIS countries, respond rapidly to internal and external threats to the stability of the food market, and increase participation in international cooperation on food security.

The Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives of the Commonwealth countries were informed about the results of the meeting of the Coordination Board on Sanitary Protection of the Territories of the CIS Member Nations from Import and Spread of Especially Dangerous Infectious Diseases held on 19 March 2020 via videoconference.

Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Sergey Lebedev, who participated in the meeting of the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives by videoconference, commended the meeting of the Coordination Board on Sanitary Protection of the Territories of the CIS Member Nations from Import and Spread of Especially Dangerous Infectious Diseases.

The members of the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives discussed the provided information and agreed on the need to consolidate the efforts of the CIS Member Nations in the fight against the pandemic.

The next meeting of the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives of the CIS Member Nations at the Statutory and other Bodies of the Commonwealth is scheduled for 14 April 2020.
