PACE President: I Believe in Parliamentary Diplomacy and I am Ready to Continue Working Together with IPA CIS in This Direction

Secretary General – Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Dmitriy Kobitskiy held a meeting with President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Hendrik Daems. Dmitriy Kobitskiy delivered a letter on behalf of Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko,congratulating Mr. Daems on his election as President.

The parties discussed the cooperation between the IPA CIS and the PACE, the prospects for joint organization of a number of events, including the conference dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II to be held this autumn and the Conference on Countering International Terrorism to be held next spring.

The PACE President also expressed great interest in participating in the upcoming 51st IPA CIS plenary session to be held in April. He noted that participation in events in St. Petersburg provides a great opportunity to meet with colleagues from other parliaments and discuss the most relevant issues.

Dmitriy Kobitskiy also met with Acting Chairperson (First Vice-Chairperson) of the PACE Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy, Head of the German delegation to the PACE Andreas Nick.

They discussed proposals for joint collaboration between the IPA CIS and the PACE at the level of the working bodies, particularly the return to the practice of holding joint meetings of the PACE Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy and the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Political Issues and International Cooperation.
