Turkmenistan prepares for its chairmanship at the CIS in 2019

On 28 September, a regular meeting of the Council of the CIS Heads of State will take place in Dushanbe after which Turkmenistan will take over the CIS chairmanship from the Republic of Tajikistan. The draft Concept of the Turkmenistan Chairmanship in the CIS has been prepared and submitted for the consideration by the President.

The country's Head of State Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow noted that, assuming the chairmanship Turkmenistan would further promote constructive and multi-dimensional partnership across the CIS. The cooperation in the framework of the Commonwealth has been and remains one of the key priorities of the country’s foreign policy and the Turkmen side will take all necessary steps to ensure the efficient work of the CIS statutory bodies and relevant structures in this period.

Earlier, Turkmenistan chaired the CIS in 2012.
