2015 Readings in the Tavricheskiy open in the IPA CIS headquarters

Themed Relevant Issues of Parliamentarism. Past and Present, this year the symposium brought together researchers from 19 Russian cities, as well as experts from Belarus, Poland, Serbia and the Ukraine.

Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Alexey Sergeev addressed the guests of the conference. He reflected on the importance to preserve the legacy and lessons learned through the history of the Tavricheskiy Palace – the cradle of Russian Parliamentarism.

“Today, the CIS societies are facing the challenge of popularizing historical records. People tend to adopt historic experience to understand their path in today’s world. Differences in approaching history can be both the source for coherence and division. We need to look for ways to consolidate society and find mutually acceptable solutions. We need to talk more of what we have in common. Considering the current switch of generations with youth having new values and views on history and the evolution of the CIS, one of the objectives of this conference is to analyze the available historic knowledge and shape an objective vision of the history behind Russian Parliamentarism”, said Alexey Sergeev.
