Development of Parliamentary Life in St. Petersburg Became Central Theme of Conference “Readings in the Tavricheskiy”

On 6 December, the XVIII International Conference The Development of Parliamentarism: History and Modernity” (Readings in the Tavricheskiy) was held at the headquarters of the IPA CIS.

This year, the event was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg. The conference was attended by deputies of the St. Petersburg Parliament, representatives of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, consuls general and diplomats from CIS States, honorary consuls of friendly nations, as well as academics from Belarus and Russia.

The conference opened with a panel session “The Role and Place of Parliament in the Development of International and Interregional Cooperation” organized in collaboration with the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg.

The Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy delivered a welcoming speech. He noted that following the conference, publications of its materials were published annually, which increased public interest in the history of parliamentarism.

The participants were addressed by Chair of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg Alexander Belsky. He noted that this conference stood out among other events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Assembly, as parliamentarism was born in the Tavricheskiy Palace where.

Senior Advisor at the General Consulate of the Republic of Belarus in St. Petersburg Vyacheslav Remenchik emphasized the special role of parliamentary interregional cooperation and shared the results of the XI Forum of the Regions of Republic of Belarus and Russian Federation.

Also, on the sidelines of the Readings in the Tavricheskiy, a Cooperation Agreement was signed for scientific research and cultural-educational purposes between the Secretariat of the IPA CIS Council and the St. Petersburg State Budgetary Institution - Central State Archive of Historical Political Documents of St. Petersburg.

The document was signed by Dmitriy Kobitskiy and the Director of the Central State Archive Vladimir Taradin.
