Azerbaijan Announced Date of Presidential Election

According to the order of President of the Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev, a span presidential election will be held in the country on 7 February.
The Central Election Commission of the Azerbaijan Republic has approved the date of the span presidential election. Voting will be held on 7 February 2024. This was announced by Chair of the CEC of Azerbaijan Mazahir Panahov.
According to the Constitution of Azerbaijan, the President of the Republic is elected for a seven-year term on the basis of universal, equal and direct suffrage by free, personal and secret voting. The Head of the state is elected by a half majority of votes. If such a majority is not obtained in the first round of voting, a second round is held, in which only two candidates can participate.
In September 2016, a referendum on the introduction of six new articles to the Constitution of the country and another 23 amendments to the existing articles was held in Azerbaijan. As a result of the referendum, the presidential term was increased from five to seven years; the President was also given the power to call span presidential elections.
