CEC of Uzbekistan: Experience of 2019 and Recommendations of Observers Taken into Account

As part of the short-term monitoring of the elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, IPA CIS Observer Team Coordinator, First Deputy Speaker of the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Mahmadali Vatanzoda, met with Chairperson of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan Zainiddin Nizamhojaev.

Zainiddin Nizamhojaev informed the observers about the activities of the CEC during the pre-election period. He noted that the election administration bodies had studied the experience of holding the 2019 parliamentary elections, including the recommendations of international observers.

He also told about the interaction with the IPA CIS and the International Institute for Monitoring the Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD), noted the great importance of the monitoring experience accumulated by the IPA CIS IIMDD and reminded that this year the conference dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the Institute was held in St. Petersburg.

Mahmadali Vatanzoda told the CEC Chairperson about the results of long-term monitoring of the current election campaign and handed him a copy of the report of the expert group on the long-term monitoring of the preparation and holding of the presidential elections in the Republic of Uzbekistan.

IPA CIS Council Secretary General Dmitriy Kobitskiy expressed hope that the elections in Uzbekistan would be held at a high organizational level. He invited the head of the CEC of the Republic of Uzbekistan to a conference to be held in 2022 that will be dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Chisinau Convention.
