IPA CIS International Observers Met With Vice-Speaker of Senate of Republic of Uzbekistan Sodiq Safoev

The IPA CIS observers at the elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, headed by Team Coordinator, First Deputy Speaker of the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Mahmadali Vatanzoda discussed the electoral campaign with Vice-Speaker of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sodiq Safoev.

Welcoming his colleagues, Sodiq Safoev noted that the current presidential elections were essentially a referendum on the adoption of systemic reform of the social system, the democratization processes that had been taking place in Uzbekistan over the past five years, and the choice of further development paths. He also noted the increasing activity of participants in the electoral process in the Republic of Uzbekistan. In addition, the Vice-Speaker spoke about the significant role of inter-parliamentary dialogue in the Commonwealth, stressing that it was embodied in specific projects for the development of trade, transport, and cultural exchange that benefit the citizens of the CIS Member Nations.

IPA CIS Observer Team Coordinator Mahmadali Vatanzoda acquainted the Vice-Speaker of the Senate with an analytical report on the long-term monitoring of the elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, drafted by the experts of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations.

Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy spoke about the upcoming events of the Assembly this fall, as well as plans for the next year, in which the IPA CIS would celebrate its 30th anniversary.

The parties exchanged views on the course of the electoral campaign and the prospects for cooperation of parliamentarians on international platforms, primarily within the framework of the IPA CIS.
