Election Campaign for President of Uzbekistan Has Started

On 10 May, a session of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan chaired by its Chair Zayniddin Nizamkhodjaev was held. The start of the campaign for snap presidential elections, which are appointed by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev for 9 July 2023, was announced.
The session approved a calendar plan for the preparation and conduct of the elections. It determines the 51 activities in 7 areas of the electoral process stipulated by law and their timing.
The calendar plan ensures an open and transparent, correct and effective organization of the election campaign in compliance with the law, a rational distribution and mobilization of available forces and capabilities, reports the CEC of the country.
Information on the procedure, stages and timing of activities related to the preparation and conducting of elections will be announced to voters and other participants in the electoral process on the official website of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan and in the media.
Earlier, the CEC announced that under Article 128 of the Constitution, the President has the right to call snap elections of the head of state.
According to the amendments to the Constitution adopted by the referendum on 30 April 2023, the President of Uzbekistan is elected for seven years.
