Herzen University Students Proposed Establishment of International Volunteer Center

On 14 June, Deputy Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat – Director of the International Institute for Monitoring the Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD) Ivan Mushket met with staff members and students of the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia, who participated in preparing and holding the International forum “St. Petersburg - the Parliamentary Capital of the Commonwealth” on the occasion of the 320^th anniversary of St. Petersburg.

During the meeting Ivan Mushket told about the IPA CIS IIMDD projects with students and invited the students to take part in the meeting of the discussion club “Tavricheskiy” to be held on 24 June. The Herzen University students proposed the idea of establishing an international volunteer center at the University and asked the IPA CIS to support the initiative.

At the end of the meeting, the Herzen University staff members and students were presented with letters of appreciation and certificates.

The event was held at the Uzbek Cultural Center of the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia. The meeting was attended by Vice-Rector of the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia for International Affairs and Internationalization Dmitrii Mereshkin, Head of the Educational Development Department of the University Oksana Shubina and Head of the IPA CIS IIMDD Analytical and Election Monitoring Department Roman Amburtsev.

The International Forum “St. Petersburg - the Parliamentary Capital of the Commonwealth” was held on 18-19 May and had three venues.

The roundtable “Youth Parliamentarism – School for the Formation of the Legal and Political Culture of the Youth” took place at the Herzen University, experience of international parliamentary cooperation was presented in the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, the St. Petersburg practices of cooperation development in the CIS and prospective directions of parliamentary cooperation were discussed in the Tavricheskiy Palace.

The Forum was organized by the IPA CIS, the Legislative Assembly and the Government of St. Petersburg.
