IPA CIS IIMDD Representatives Held Online-Meetings on Preparation of Referendum in Kyrgyz Republic

Today, the group consisting of the staff members and experts of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD) headed by Deputy Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat – IPA CIS IIMDD Director Ivan Mushket held a number of online-meetings with the participants of the electoral process in the Kyrgyz Republic. The meetings took place within the long-term monitoring of the preparation of the referendum on the Draft Law on the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The IPA CIS IIMDD representatives held a discussion with Special Representative of the Central Commission on Elections and Referenda of the Kyrgyz Republic at the Osh territorial electoral commission Rasulbek Kadyrov and Chairperson of the Bishkek territorial electoral commission Kayrat Mamatov.

Particular attention was drawn to the protection of the participants of the electoral process during the COVID-19 pandemic. The representatives of election administration bodies of the Kyrgyz Republic assured the observers that all the necessary sanitary and epidemiological measures were in place. The CEC has been jointly developing a mechanism with the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic since January that would allow minimizing the risks related to the spread of infection.

The IPA CIS IIMDD Director also noted that the observation of the referendum would be held not only on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic, but also at the foreign polling stations in the Republic of Belarus, the Russian Federation, the Federal Republic of Germany, the People’s Republic of China and other countries.

On the same day, the meetings with the representatives of the civil society of the Kyrgyz Republic took place, where the parties discussed the preparation for the referendum and the key aspects of the campaigning.
