IPA CIS International Observers from Kazakhstan Visited Ata Beyit Memorial Complex

The representatives of the Republic of Kazakhstan participating in the monitoring of the elections to the parliament of Kyrgyzstan, led by coordinator of the IPA CIS Observer Team, Chairperson of the Committee of Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Yerman, visited the grave of Chingiz Aitmatov located at the Ata Beyit Memorial Complex.

The Ata Beyit Memorial Complex was built in 2000 in memory of 137 Kyrgyzstan people who became victims of political repressions in 1930-1940. Torokul Aitmatov, the father of Chingiz Aitmatov, was executed by firing squad during that period.

The IPA CIS supports the humanistic ideals set in the work of Chingiz Aitmatov and for many years has organized exhibitions and readings dedicated to the writer and his works.

In 2013, following the proposal of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, the IPA CIS established the Chingiz Aitmatov Prize, which is annually awarded to prominent figures of culture and art from the Commonwealth.
