IPA CIS Observers Hold Meetings in Tashkent

Head of the CIS Observer Mission, CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev and Coordinator of the IPA CIS Observer Mission, Chair of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for Foreign Affairs and National Security Sergei Rachkov held a meeting with Head of the OSCE ODIHR observation mission for the constitutional referendum in Uzbekistan Albert Jonsson on 28 April in Tashkent. The meeting was also attended by Director of the IPA CIS IIMDD Ivan Mushket.

The sides exchanged views on the preparation of the referendum on the draft Constitutional Law on the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Sergey Lebedev informed Albert Jonson about the CIS Observer Mission and highlighted the high quality of its members: heads and members of CIS central election commissions, MPs of national parliaments, representatives of diplomatic corps.

Sergei Rachkov pointed out that the CIS IPA Observers were presented at 16 polling stations in 10 countries, in addition to the regions of Uzbekistan.

The IPA CIS Observer Mission visited the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan and talked to its Chair Mirza-Ulugbek Abdusalomov.

The observers received information on how the request from the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan to hold a referendum on the draft Constitutional Law was considered and on what grounds the court gave a positive answer.

Ivan Mushket held a meeting with the professors and students of the Tashkent branch of the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia.

Ivan Mushket reported that on 13th April the IPA CIS Council approved the Regulation on the International Olympiad in Humanities and Social Sciences of Schoolchildren of the CIS and spoke about the International Olympiad “Electoral Systems of the World”, which brings together students from 150 universities of the Commonwealth.
