IPA CIS Observers Met With Three Tajikistan Presidential Candidates

On 8 October 2020, the IPA CIS international observers held meetings with three presidential candidates – Chairman of the Communist Party of Tajikistan Miroj Abdulloyev, Chairman of the Party of Economic Reforms of Tajikistan Rustam Rakhmatzoda and Chairman of the Socialist Party of Tajikistan Abduhalim Ghafforov. All three candidates are members of the Tajik parliament.

Opening the meetings, Secretary General – Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Dmitry Kobitskiy, told about the work program of the observers in Tajikistan. He stressed that the observers’ work is based on the principles of political impartiality, non-interference in the election process and the country’s internal affairs.

During the meeting of the IPA CIS observers with Chairman of the Communist Party of Tajikistan Miroj Abdulloyev, he noted that the Communist Party was able to freely implement all the planned events and conduct a decent election campaign.

Chairman of the Party of Economic Reforms of Tajikistan Rustam Rakhmatzoda also did not express any complaints with regards to the conduct of the elections by the state bodies. He told the observers about how the campaigning work was carried out in the context of the epidemiological threat.

During the meeting with the observers Chairman of the Socialist Party of Tajikistan Adbuhalim Ghafforov outlined the main goals: peace and unity in the country, good relations with all CIS Member Nations, increasing the role of the mother, solving migration problems, etc. Adbuhalim Ghafforov also spoke about the current election campaign and noted that the competition among candidates was taking place exclusively in a legal channel and in conditions of mutual respect.
