IPA CIS Observers Started Long-Term Monitoring of Snap Presidential Elections in Uzbekistan

On 14 June, the IPA CIS group of observers met with the leadership and representatives of the election headquarters of the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan and the “Adolat” Social Democratic Party.

Deputy Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat – IPA CIS IIMDD Director Ivan Musket said that the IPA CIS was forming a group of international observers for the presidential elections in Uzbekistan.

The IPA CIS monitoring group plans to visit polling stations in Tashkent, regions of the Republic of Uzbekistan and in its foreign representative offices during the short-term observation period on 6-11 July 2023.

The People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (PDP) nominated Ulugbek Inoyatov as a candidate in the snap elections.

The meeting was attended by head of the election headquarters, Deputy Chairman of the Central Council of the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan Ulugbek Vafayev, member of the election headquarters, chief consultant of the Central Council of the PDP of Uzbekistan Mikhail Elshov and member of the election headquarters, head of the Department of the Central Council of the PDP of Uzbekistan Malika Rashidova.

The IPA CIS international observers discussed participation in the current election campaign with Chairperson of the Political Council of the “Adolat” Social Democratic Party Bakhrom Abdukhalimov and Deputy Chairperson of the Political Council of the “Adolat” Social Democratic Party Abdukamol Rakhmonov.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Director of the IPA CIS IIMDD Elena Eremenko, experts of the IPA CIS IIMDD Stanislav Tkachenko and Alexander Potyakin, and staff members of the IPA CIS IIMDD.

The snap elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan are scheduled for 9 July 2023. In accordance with the amendments to the Constitution adopted at the referendum on 30 April 2023, the President of Uzbekistan is elected for seven years.
