IPA CIS Observers Started Short-Term Monitoring of Presidential Elections in Kyrgyz Republic

Today, as a part of the short-term monitoring of the snap elections of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic and the referendum on defining form of government, the international observers from the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Ruslan Kazakbayev.

IPA CIS Observer Team Coordinator, Deputy Chair of the Committee of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Defense, Chair of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Defense and Security Issues Viktor Zavarzin, Plenipotentiary Representative of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic at the IPA CIS Nurbek Satvaldiev and Deputy Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat – Director of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations Ivan Mushket participated in the meeting.

Ruslan Kazakbayev expressed gratitude to IPA CIS Council Chairperson Valentina Matvienko for sending the Observer Team. The parties discussed the progress of the preparation for the elections, features of the campaigning period, measures taken by the government to prevent the spread of the coronavirus infection on the election day, etc.

On the election day, 10 January, 2,476 polling stations (as well as 48 stations abroad) will be open. 311 international observers from 43 countries representing 301 organizations will observe the elections. 52 observers were accredited from the IPA CIS, including MPs and representatives of the highest legislative authorities from eight Member Nations.

93 Mass media agencies from 11 countries were accredited, including 34 agencies from the Russian Federation, 19 from Germany, 14 from Great Britain, for 5 from Japan, USA and France.
