IPA CIS Observers to Monitor Parliamentary Election in Uzbekistan

Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko received a letter from Chair of the CEC of the Republic of Uzbekistan Zayniddin Nizamkhodjaev.

It contains an invitation to the IPA CIS international observers to participate in monitoring the election to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which will be held on 27 October 2024.

The IPA CIS Council Secretariat will start forming a monitoring group, which will include representatives of the parliaments of the Assembly, the IPA CIS staff members and the IPA CIS IIMDD experts.

For the first time in Uzbekistan’s history, election to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis will be held on a mixed basis. 75 deputies will be elected under the majority election system, where voters vote for their candidates, and another 75 – under the proportional representation system by voting for political parties.

About 30,000 candidates and about 90,000 of their proxies are expected to participate in the electoral process. More than 120 thousand members of election commissions will be engaged in the organization of election.

The IPA CIS international observers monitored the 2023 election campaigns in Uzbekistan: the constitutional referendum on 30 April and the snap presidential election on 9 July.
