IPA CIS Observers Completed Monitoring of Snap Presidential Elections in Republic of Uzbekistan

On 7 July, the IPA CIS International Observers held meetings with the leadership and representatives of the election campaign teams of the political parties that nominated their candidates for the snap presidential elections in Uzbekistan. The representatives emphasized that the election campaign is being held in a competitive struggle with a high level of political activity of voters.

On 7 July in Tashkent, the IPA CIS International Observers visited the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan and talked to its Chair Mirza-Ulugbek Abdusalomov, who predicted a high voting turnout at the snap presidential elections.

On 8 July, the IPA CIS International Observers held a meeting in Tashkent. They shared their first expressions on the results of meetings held yesterday with the participants of the election campaign, as well as outlined the work plan for the coming days. During the meeting, Coordinator of the monitoring group, Deputy Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhakyp Asanov noted that the main goal in the work of the observers is to be objective.

On 8 July, the IPA CIS International Observers under the leadership of Coordinator of the monitoring group, Deputy Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhakyp Asanov discussed the preparations for the snap presidential elections with First Vice-Speaker of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sodiq Safoev. The parties discussed the work of the observers.

On 8 July, the IPA CIS International Observers met with Chair of the Committee of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for International Affairs and Inter-Parliamentary Ties Dilorom Fayziyeva in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan. During the meeting, the MPs expressed interest in the CIS Convention on the Standards of Democratic Elections.

On 9 July, as part of the snap presidential elections international observers of the IPA CIS and the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States discussed the progress of the election campaign. The parties exchanged views on the ongoing elections in Uzbekistan.

On 10 July, the final press conference of the IPA CIS Observer Mission at the snap presidential elections in the Republic of Uzbekistan took place in Tashkent, during which the results of the international observation of the elections campaign was summarized.

Head of the Mission, CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev noted that all conditions for the work of the international observers in the Republic were provided, and the members of the Mission received broad support from all structures and participants of the electoral process.

The IPA CIS International Observers worked at the polling stations abroad in 11 countries: the Azerbaijan Republic (Baku), the Republic of Belarus (Minsk), the Republic of Kazakhstan (Astana, Almaty), the Kyrgyz Republic (Bishkek), the Russian Federation (Vladivostok, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Moscow, St. Petersburg), the Italian Republic (Rome), the People’s Republic of China (Beijing), the Republic of Korea (Seoul), the United Arab Emirates (Dubai), the Republic of Türkiye (Ankara) and the French Republic (Paris).

All the data from the polling stations abroad obtained during the monitoring will be included in the final conclusion of the IPA CIS International Observers.

The monitoring of the snap presidential elections of the Republic of Uzbekistan was carried out by the CIS MPs, as well as the IPA CIS staff members headed by Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy and the IPA CIS IIMDD experts.
