Issyk-Kul Electoral Forum and Youth Electoral School Launched in Kyrgyz Republic

On 20 June 2023, the Youth Electoral School “Elections in the Digital Era” opened in the holiday hotel “Universitetsky” (Issyk-Kul region, Kyrgyz Republic) as part of the Issyk-Kul Electoral Forum.

The school was organized by the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD), the IPA CIS IIMDD Bishkek Office and Kyrgyz National University named after J. Balasagyn.

More than 40 students representing Belgorod State Technological University named after V.G. Shukhov, Bishkek Humanities University named after K. Karasaev, Issyk-Kul State University named after K. Tynystanov, Kyrgyz National University named after J. Balasagyn, Osh State University and Saratov State Law Academy became participants of the school’s work program.

They will have to listen to lectures and work on seminars by leading lecturers from Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia, speak at the second meeting of the Youth Discussion Club “Tavricheskiy” on the theme “Elections in the Digital Era: Electoral Sovereignty vs Open Information Society”, perform an independent task on the prospects of observing remote electronic voting, and present their proposals on organizing such work.

Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy sent a greeting to the School participants.

On 22 June, the Issyk-Kul Electoral Forum “Elections of the XXI Century: Diversity, Best Practices, Current Issues and Ways of Development” began its work in Cholpon-Ata. The roundtables discussed improving the electoral legislation and its application, as well as the development of technologies for the credibility and transparency of elections and referendums.

The forum is organized by the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums of the Kyrgyz Republic. Representatives of election administration bodies, public authorities, academic and expert communities of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Türkiye, Georgia, Mongolia, the IPA CIS, the CIS Executive Committee, other international organizations, parliamentarians, heads of non-governmental organizations and human rights defenders take part in its work.
