Voting Monitoring Begun at Parliamentary Elections of Republic of Kazakhstan

On 18 March, voting for elections to the lower house of the parliament started in Kazakhstan. The IPA CIS Observer Team monitors the voting at the polling stations in the republic and abroad. Observers witnessed that all necessary procedures were carried out in full and voting opened as planned – at 7:00.

During the monitoring, Observer Team members paid attention to the presence and fullness of informational materials, secrecy of voting and free expression of will of citizens, availability of conditions for voting of people with reduced mobility.

The members of the IPA CIS Observer Team were the MPs from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, the officials from the Assembly and the experts from the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development.

On 19 March, the IPA CIS Observer Team met with Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbayev at one of the polling stations. The Speaker said that international observation had been very important and expressed his hope that the observers’ assessments would be unbiased.
