Baku. IPA CIS observers met with the President of Azerbaijan Ilkham Aliev

The observers shared their opinion on the long-term monitoring of presidential elections in Azerbaijan and briefed the President about their preliminary monitoring results.

Ilkham Aliev expressed satisfaction with the IPA CIS engagement in monitoring the election campaign. He noted the usual effectiveness and efficiency of election monitoring based on previous monitoring experience. He went on to say that this time around Azerbaijan invited an unusually high number of international organizations to observe the elections, IPA CIS including, as a means of enhancing transparency of the process. He believed that extensive international exposure would galvanize all stakeholder of the elections throughout the campaign and on the day of elections thereby contributing to the fair, free and transparent elections taking place in accordance with the national law and international electoral standards.
