Concluding press conference of the IPA CIS observer mission in Astana

The IPA CIS Observer Mission at the early parliamentary elections to the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan held a wrap-up press-conference in Astana.

According to the observers, the election process was competitive and transparent involving multiple political parties, and fully complied both with national and international norms.

According to Sergey Lebedev, Chairperson of the Executive Committee – CIS Executive Secretary, 301 experts representing 9 CIS countries observed the elections. "On the election day, our observers attended ballot stations in Astana, Almaty and in all the regions of Kazakhstan".

The observers recognized the improved professionalism of ballot commission members and the highest turnout.

Observer team coordinator Valekh Askerov, Vice Speaker of the Milli Mejlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, informed the colleagues and the media that the team consisted of 42 international observers from 7 member states of the IPA CIS (the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Belarus, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan). It included MPs, representatives of legislative authorities from the IPA CIS member states, representatives of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat, and experts of the IIMDD IPA CIS. The coordinator also noted that the IPA CIS international observers provided both long-term and short-term observation of the elections, which allowed them to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the election process.

"We were glad to see first voters coming to ballot stations before they opened", said the IPA CIS observer team coordinator.

He also confirmed that the election process had become more professional. "This proves that the country is gaining significant momentum in all areas".

The team coordinator announced that the observers reflected their comments in the Findings. He wished the people of Kazakhstan prosperity and welfare.
