Head of IPA CIS observation mission met with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan

At the meeting with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Alyev, Vice Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Ilyas Umahanov commended the quality of organizing the referendum to amend the Constitution of the country.

Ilyas Umahanov is heading the IPA CIS mission monitoring the referendum on the extension of the presidential term from 5 to 7 years, the abolition of the age requirements to the candidates running for the presidential office and MP mandates, and the need of the role of Vice President for Azerbaijan.

The mission consists of 22 observers: MPs and representatives of the supreme legislative bodies from six IPA CIS member nations (the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tajikistan) as well as staff members of the Secretariat of the IPA CIS Council and experts of the IIMDD IPA CIS.

On the E-Day the IPA CIS international observers visited the polling stations in Baku and other regions as well as polling stations beyond Azerbaijan – in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
