International Conference “Election Institution as a Mechanism of Public Authority Legitimation” to Open on 17 October in Minsk

On 17-18 October Minsk will host the international conference “Election Institution as a Mechanism of Public Authority Legitimation”. The event will be co-organized by the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, the CIS Executive Committee and the Central Commission of the Republic of Belarus on Elections and Holding Republican Referenda.

The conference seeks to exchange information and experience in the field of legislative support of elections and referenda across the CIS, the development of legal and electoral culture, promotion of civil consciousness and raising the CIS population’s interest to the issues of forming the governing bodies.

The event will bring together members of national parliaments, judges of the constitutional courts, heads of the elections commissions of the CIS countries, leading experts in the field of constitutional and electoral law, representatives of the international organizations.

The participants will also get acquainted with the activity of the territorial and district commissions for the elections to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, the measures taken to encourage active voters and the peculiarities of the participation in the elections of the NGOs, including the youth NGOs.
