IPA CIS builds a team of short-term observers in Azerbaijan

The team will consist of 30 observers, including MPs from 7 countries. Belarus, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and Ukraine have already submitted their respective candidatures. Experts, analysts and IIMDD IPA CIS staff may also be selected as observers. The Team Leader is Leonid Slutskiy, Head of the State Duma delegation at the Permanent Mission of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation to the IPA CIS.

Short-term observers will deploy in Azerbaijan several days prior to the elections to review the work at polling stations, meet political leaders and monitor the election process.

Azerbaijan has a presidential term of 5 years followed by elections. To qualify for this office, the candidate must be a national of Azerbaijan, residing in the country for at least 10 years, without criminal record or obligations benefiting other countries or double citizenship.
