IPA CIS international observers met with Member of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation Siyabshakh Shapiev in the Tavricheskiy Palace

The IPA CIS headquarters hosted a meeting of the international observers from the IPA CIS with Member of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation Siyabshakh Shapiev who is currently on a working visit in St. Petersburg.

The representative of the Central Election Commission informed the observers on the work of the Commission to verify voter lists including house visits, enhance the level of legal training of the members of the territorial and district election commissions, build, in cooperation with local authorities, the conditions enabling people with disabilities to vote.

The meeting focused on the issues of security at polling stations on the election day and the strengthening of administrative and criminal liability for violations of law during the process of preparation and holding of elections.

IPA CIS observers shared their impressions on visiting the Leningrad, Pskov and Novgorod regions and the Republic of Karelia as part of the long-term monitoring mission.

Acting Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council, Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Sergey Antufiev and Chair of the Election Commission of the Leningrad region Mikhail Lebedinskiy also attended the meeting.
