IPA CIS Observer Team gave an optimistic assessment of the recent referendum in the Kyrgyz Republic

The press conference of the IPA CIS Observer Team on the results of the monitoring of Sunday`s referendum on amendments to the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic took place in Bishkek.

Eduard Sharmazanov, Coordinator of the IPA CIS Observer Team, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, as well as Musa Guliev, Deputy Chairman of the Public Health Committee of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Khisrav Abdunazar, member of the Committee of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan on Energy, Industry, Construction and Communications, and Haik Chilingaryan, plenipotentiary representative of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia at the IPA CIS, reported on the meetings held in Kyrgyzstan during the last four days, including with Jogorku Kenesh, the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda, and representatives of the agitation groups.

“Kyrgyzstan is moving along the right democratic path. The recent elections in Kyrgyzstan demonstrated all the pre-requisites of democracy including competition of political forces, freedom of speech and the right of choice. It was another important step towards the future. Electronic voting significantly reduces human factor. The elections were held in full compliance with international standards and national legislation”, concluded Eduard Sharmazanov.

The press-conference of the CIS Observer Mission took place later in Bishkek.

Evgeny Sloboda, Head of the Mission, stated that “The application of modern election technologies during the referendum on the amendments to the Constitution on 11 December facilitated reliable counting of votes”.
