IPA CIS Observer Team Performs Monitoring of Elections to Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Republic of Uzbekistan

Today, the observers from the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly started monitoring the elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The observers attended the opening of the polling stations, sealing the ballot boxes and beginning of the voting.

All the polling stations opened at the scheduled time, were duly equipped for the voting, easily accessible for the disabled people. The stations were provided with the legally prescribed information materials and necessary signage.

The IPA CIS observers visited 145 polling stations situated in Tashkent and settlements in the Bukhara, Samarqand, Sirdarya and Tashkent regions of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as the foreign polling stations in Baku (Azerbaijan Republic), Minsk (Republic of Belarus), Bishkek (Kyrgyz Republic) and Saint Petersburg (Russian Federation).

The IPA CIS observers noted that the voting procedure was held in accordance with the legislation, all the voters were provided with equal and unhindered access to the polling stations. No interference into the work of the election commissions by the administrative or law enforcement authorities was detected.

The majority of the polling stations were attended by authorized representatives of the candidates running for the elections, observers from the public organizations and political parties, as well as members of international observer missions. During the interview with the IPA CIS observers, they did not mention any substantial comments on the organization or holding the elections.

On the same day, Secretary General – Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Dmitriy Kobitskiy participated in the meeting of the CIS Observer Team, headed by Chairman of the Executive Committee – Executive Secretary of the CIS Sergey Lebedev, with the international observers from the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE ODIHR). The parties exchanged information on their observations during the monitoring process and discussed their continued cooperation in order to improve methods and harmonize monitoring standards.
