IPA CIS Observers Discussed Electoral Campaign in Republic of Tajikistan with Leadership of Local Political Parties

The international observers from the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly led by Coordinator of the IPA CIS Observer Team, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ulugbek Inoyatov continue short-term monitoring of the elections to the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan. Within their working schedule they met with the leadership of a number of political parties participating in the elections.

At the meeting, the People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan was represented by First Deputy Speaker Abdudzhabbor Azizi. He told the observers about the party’s candidates, plans to increase representation in parliament and large-scale volunteer project supporting the campaign. The headquarters of the party have not recorded any violations by the election officials or other political parties.

Leader of the Agrarian Party of Tajikistan Rustam Latifzoda told the observers about the final stage of the campaigning. The residents of rural area and small villages constitute traditionally the main electorate of the party. In the run-up to the elections the party has updates the key messages of its program. The party’s strategic objective is the modernization of the country’s economy, including the agrarian sphere.

Leader of the Party of Economic Reforms of Tajikistan Rustam Kudratov briefed the observers on the party’s plans to increase its representation, form a parliamentary faction and to impose its candidates as ministers in the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.

All the meetings discussed the features of carrying out electoral campaigns in the Internet, work with the media, increased participation of women and youth in the electoral processes and other issues.

Yesterday, the IPA CIS Observer Team also met with the leadership of the Democratic and Socialist parties.

On the election day, the IPA CIS observers will perform monitoring at the polling stations in Dushanbe, the city of Gissar, Vakhdat, Tursunzoda districts and settlements of the Khatlon region of the Republic of Tajikistan in accordance with individual schedules. In addition, monitoring will be also carried out at foreign polling stations in Baku (Azerbaijan Republic), Minsk (Republic of Belarus), Bishkek (Kyrgyz Republic) and St. Petersburg (Russian Federation).
