IPA CIS Observers Met with Speaker of the Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Makhmadsaid Ubaidulloev

As a part of the short-term monitoring of the elections to the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, the international observers from the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly headed by Coordinator of the IPA CIS Observer Team, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ulugbek Inoyatov met with Speaker of the Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Makhmadsaid Ubaidulloev.

Speaker of the Majlisi Milli expressed his gratitude to the IPA CIS Observers for the participation in the monitoring of the forthcoming elections and to the Speakers of national parliaments of eight countries, which sent representative delegations to the Republic of Tajikistan.

Makhmadsaid Ubaidulloev noted that the main goal of the law-makers of the Republic of Tajikistan is to ensure decent living conditions for the citizens. All seven political parties currently registered in Tajikistan are taking part in the elections. About 4.7 million voters in the country and in the diplomatic missions are expected to cast their votes. The competitiveness is observed in all districts: 3 to 6 candidates are nominated in every district. Active work has been registered on increasing the participation of women in the representative authorities of Tajikistan.

Elections officials made efforts on enhancing cooperation with the youth, women and numerous volunteer organizations, which enabled the engagement of all social classes in the elections.

Coordinator of the IPA CIS Observer Team Ulugbek Inoyatov informed the Speaker of the Majlisi Milli on the activity of the team during the short-term monitoring and handed over a copy of the Conclusion on long-term monitoring prepared by the IIMDD IPA CIS Expert Group.
