IPA CIS observers met with the principals of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Armenia

The IPA CIS observers met with Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Armenia Tigran Mukuchyan.

Members of the IPA CIS Observer Team informed the Central Election Commission on the team membership and its key objectives. They noted that the team included members of parliament, representatives of the supreme legislative bodies of the six CIS member nations (the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan), IPA CIS Council Secretariat staff members and the IIMDD IPA CIS experts.

Members of the IPA CIS Observer Team also conveyed to the Chairman of the Central Election Commission the report of the expert group on the long-term monitoring of the elections to the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.

The IPA CIS Observer Team Coordinator, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Boleslav Pirshtuk noted: “During the meeting with Chairman of the Central Election Committee of the Republic of Armenia Tigran Mukuchyan we learned the details about the electoral system of the Republic of Armenia. Our expert group came here earlier to perform long-term monitoring of the elections to the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia. Experts were studying the work of the structures involved in the electoral process. They met with the electorate, as well as with representatives of election committees, parties, movements”.

Member of the IPA CIS Observers Team, Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Alexey Sergeev: “The key feature of our observer team is that it is includes MPs of the CIS member nations who know the electoral process from within, therefore their assessments and opinions are especially important and interesting. Another specific feature is that the results of their work will be announced at the meeting of the IPA CIS Council also attended by heads of parliament of the CIS member nations, including the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia. Thus, with a high probability, the results will be taken into account in order to improve the electoral legislation of the country”.
