IPA CIS observers start monitoring elections to the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova

Based on the invitation by Chairman of the Central Election Committee of the Republic of Moldova Alina Russu, addressed to Secretary General – Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Yury Osipov, the IPA CIS Observer Team will take part in the monitoring of preparation and organization of the parliamentary elections in the Republic of Moldova to be held on 24 February 2019.

Based on the decision by Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko, Deputy Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bektas Beknazarov was appointed the Coordinator of the Observer Team. The IPA CIS observers and the IIMDD IPA CIS expert group are being nominated at the moment. At the same time, the CEC of the Republic of Moldova begins the accreditation of the IPA CIS observers.

It is expected that on 30 January 2019 the Observer Team will depart to the Republic of Moldova within the framework of a long-term monitoring of the preparation stage of the elections. The three-day visit program includes meetings with representatives of the CEC of the Republic of Moldova, campaign headquarters of political parties and candidates, as well as the introduction to the activities of the district electoral boards. The observers will evaluate the preparation of the elections both in Chisinau and in the regions. The program also includes visiting of the Autonomous Territorial Unit Gagauzia and Hincesti Region.
