IPA CIS Observers Team fulfills short-term monitoring of the presidential election in the Republic of Serbia

The group includes Member of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Regulations and Organization of Work Valery Ivanov and IPA CIS Council Secretariat staff members.

On the eve of the election day, members of the observer team met with Vesna Mizdrak, a member of the Republican Electoral Commission of the Republic of Serbia. The members of the Electoral Commission informed the observers in detail about the specific features of the electoral legislation of the Republic of Serbia, the conditions for the nomination and registration of candidates, and the method of formation and functioning of voting stations in the Autonomous Province of Kosovo, where 90 polling stations were established for citizens of Serbia.

During the day, observers visited the pre-election headquarters of several presidential candidates. The IPA CIS Observer Team also held a number of meetings, including with the Chairman of the Serbian Radical Party Vojislav Sesel, an independent candidate Vuk Jeremic, and members of the election headquarters of the candidate of the Serbian Progressive Party Alexander Vucic. At the meetings with the team of observers, the candidates and representatives of their staff assessed the pre-election campaign, discussed the plans of work of the national observers on the Election Day, and expressed their opinions on the development of the socio-political situation in Serbia.
