Nation-wide constitutional referendum date is fixed in the Republic of Tajikistan

On 10 February 2016, the Assembly of Representatives of the Parliament of Tajikistan set the date for the constitutional referendum for 22 May 2016.

One of the proposed amendments is the reduction of the legal age to run for the Tajik presidency. Others prohibit establishing political parties and factions on a religious basis and foreign funding of political parties, as well as lifting of the presidential term limits.

Previous referenda resulted in establishing a two-chamber parliament instead of one chamber (1999) and in increasing the presidential term of office from 5 to 7 years (2003).
