The Republic of Belarus is electing its president

From early morning IPA CIS international observers monitor the election at different ballot stations in Minsk and in different regions of the country and abroad – in Baku, Erevan, Chisinau, Moscow, and St. Petersburg.

The ballot stations have been open since 8 a.m. and will close at 8 p.m.

The team of IPA CIS international observers arrived to Minsk a few days ago for short-term monitoring of the presidential election in Belarus. The day before they met the Heads of both chambers of the Parliament, the Head of the election commission in Belarus and with contenders and heads of campaign headquarters.

The team was composed of 40 international observers from 7 member states of the IPA CIS (the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation, and the Republic of Tajikistan). Among them there are deputies and representatives of the supreme legislative bodies, Secretary General of the IPA CIS Alexey Sergeev, experts from the International Institute for Monitoring Democratic and Parliamentary Process and the members of the Secretariat of the IPA CIS Council.
