Valentina Matvienko: "Hopefully, the people of Kazakhstan will make the right choice"

Yesterday Valentina Matvienko, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation had a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Russia Marat Tazhin.

According to Valentina Matvienko, the parliamentary elections scheduled for 20 March will be an important political milestone. “Hopefully, the people of Kazakhstan will make the right choice and the country will continue its way towards reform implementation for the sake of citizens”.

Valentina Matvienko emphasized the importance of cooperation within the IPA CIS. “In the present context it is highly relevant to improve the efficiency of all CIS structures, using the groundwork that has already been done”.

IPA CIS international observer team will monitor the parliamentary elections on the invitation of Erlan Idrisov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Valentina Matvienko assigned Valekh Aleskerov, Deputy Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, to coordinate the team’s work.

The team is comprised of 42 people including members of parliaments and representatives of supreme legislative bodies of the IPA CIS member states: the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Belarus, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, members of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat, experts of the International Institute for Monitoring Democratic Development, Parliamentarism and Suffrage Protection of the Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IIMDD IPA CIS).

The team will monitor the elections in Astana, Almaty, in different regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan and at the polling stations abroad: in Baku, Erevan, Minsk, Bishkek, Moscow and St. Petersburg.
