Lilia Gumerova Took Part in UNICEF Meeting “Parliamentarians for Children”

On 14 December 2021, a high-level consultation organized by the UNICEF took place via videoconferencing. The meeting was attended by representatives of the national parliaments, the IPU, the European parliament, the IPA CIS, the PACE, the youth parliaments and experts in the field of children’s rights protection. The event allowed to exchange experience and knowledge in order to promote and protect the rights of children and young people.

Chair of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Science and Education, Chair of the Committee of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Science, Education and Culture Lilia Gumerova took part in the meeting on behalf of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat.

In her speech, she noted that the CIS countries recognized childhood as an important stage in life and promoted the principles of priority of protecting the rights of children, ensuring their interests, developing and preparing for a full life in society, fostering moral qualities, patriotism and citizenship. The senator stressed that the issues of legislative regulation of the protection of the rights and interests of children and youth were high on the agenda of the Assembly since the establishment of the organization. She also informed the meeting participants about the most important documents adopted by the Assembly and subsequently implemented into the CIS national legislations. Lilia Gumerova also noted that legislative support for the protection of the rights of the children was one of the key activities of the upper house of the Russian parliament and noted a range of measures carried out aiming to develop the institution of family and childhood. At the end of her speech, Lilia Gumerova assured that the work of MPs to support and protect children and youth would continue.
