CIS MPs Proposed to Declare 2025 Year of Peace and All Peoples’ Unity in Fight Against Nazism

Today, a meeting of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Political Issues and International Cooperation was held in the Tavricheskiy Palace – the IPA CIS headquarters.

The event brought together members of the parliaments of the Azerbaijan Republic, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as experts and staff members of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat.

Member of the Committee of the Milli Majlis of the Azerbaijan Republic on International Relations and Interparliamentary Connections Rasim Musabekov, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Ruben Rubinyan and Chair of the Committee of the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan on International Relations, Public Organizations and Information  Saidmurod Fattohzoda were elected as Deputy Chairs of the Commission.

During the meeting, Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Konstantin Kosachev announced the initiative to declare 2025, which marks the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, the Year of Peace and All Peoples’ Unity in the Fight against Nazism. Based on the results of the discussion, the Commission members decided to ask the IPA CIS Council to support this initiative.

In addition, the Commission also adopted the draft Statement of the IPA CIS Council “On the 30th Anniversary of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States”. The document is supposed to be adopted at the meeting of the IPA CIS Council, dedicated to the anniversary of the organization to will be held in March 2022 in Almaty (Republic of Kazakhstan).

Chair of the Commission, Chair of the Committee of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security Aigul Kuspan informed the participants about the results of the Fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, which took place in Vienna in September 2021 and provided a venue for signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between the IPA CIS and the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT).

The meeting also discussed the participation of the IPA CIS observers in monitoring electoral campaigns in the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The meeting participants were also briefed on the preparation of the international conference on improving the inter-parliamentary dialogue (dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the IPA CIS and the 25th anniversary of cooperation between the IPA CIS and PACE).
