Russian and German Experts Discussed Issues of Development of Rural Areas

Today, the International Research and Practice Conference “Modern Legal Trends and Issues of Rural Development” took place via videoconferencing.

The conference was organized by the Institute of Legislation and Comparative Law under the Government of the Russian Federation together with the German-Russian Agricultural Policy Dialogue Project of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture of Germany.

During the event, the participants noted that sustainable development of rural areas occupies an important position among the issues of spatial development. The rural territories are involved in solving the issues of ensuring food security, creating favorable living conditions for the rural population, protecting the environment and rational use of natural resources, and preserving traditional cultures. Meanwhile, a number of specific economic, environmental and social issues persist in rural areas.

In addition, the conference considered the most pressing issues, including legal support of spatial development, organizational and legal issues of development, zoning and planning of rural areas; peculiarities of correlation between rural development and the development of a specially protected natural areas network, diversification of the rural economy, prospects for the development of entrepreneurial activity in rural areas (agricultural and ecological tourism, traditional crafts, etc.), development of a comfortable environment, improvement of rural areas, etc.

Deputy Chair of the Committee of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Agrarian and Food Policy and Environmental Management Elena Zlenko presented the report “New Approaches to the Development of Rural Areas”, in which she focused on new approaches to the development of rural areas in Russia and the importance of attracting young people to the countryside.

The IPA CIS Council Secretariat was represented at the event by Secretary of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Agrarian Policy, Natural Resources and Ecology Natalia Amburtseva.

The event was also attended by the experts from the Republic of Belarus, the Russian Federation and the federative Republic of Germany.
