Defense and security issues discussed in the Tavricheskiy Palace

Meeting of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Defense and Security Issues took place in the Tavrichesky Palace – the IPA CIS headquarters.

The meeting brought together MPs, document sponsors and experts of the IPA CIS member nations.

The agenda of the meeting features 8 items, including the Draft Model Law “Civil Protection”, aimed at the establishment of the integrated system for the implementation of protective activities – the system of civil protection, which will allow to join efforts for the prevention and elimination of consequences of accidents, catastrophes and natural disasters, military actions and terrorist attacks.

Members of the Commission heard the information on Draft Recommendations on the Adoption of Principles of International Humanitarian Law in Countering Terrorism and other Violent Manifestations of Extremism. The main idea of the Recommendations is to define legal restrictions that are mandatory for use in military units of the armed forces that are involved in combating terrorist groups.

The meeting participants also considered proposals for introducing changes and additions to the CIS Long-Term Plan of Model Law-Making for 2016–2020.
