Draft Convention on Preservation of CIS Cultural Heritage approved by Permanent Commission of Interparliamentary Assembly

On 5 March 2020, the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Culture, Information, Tourism and Sport approved the draft Convention on Preservation of CIS Cultural Heritage. The document may be submitted to the plenary session of the Interparliamentary Assembly.

The draft Convention has been repeatedly amended. The revised document was submitted by Member of the Permanent Commission on Culture, Information, Tourism and Sport, First Deputy Chairperson of the Committee of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Culture Elena Drapeko.

The document establishes the mutual rights and obligations of countries, regulates issues of interstate cooperation on the preservation and use of cultural heritage objects, and provides international assistance in this matter during natural disasters, social and armed conflicts.

The Permanent Commission of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States on Culture, Information, Tourism and Sport chaired by Member of the Committee of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Judicial and Legal Issues and Countering Corruption Adham Shadmanov considered a number of other documents.

Member of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia on Foreign Relations Anush Begloian was unanimously re-elected as the Deputy Chairperson of the Commission. The Member of the Armenian Parliament provided her colleagues with information on the implementation of the model laws developed by the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member Nations by the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia. She noted, in particular, that the Armenian legislators used the Model Forestry Code, Model Water Code, the Model Laws on Ambient Air Protection, on Access to Environmental Information, on Theaters and Show Business and others.

The idea of holding the International Cultural and Educational Forum of the CIS countries "Children of the Commonwealth" in 2020 in Cholpon-Ata (Kyrgyz Republic), and in 2021 in St. Petersburg (Russian Federation) was also approved.

The Travel Hub project "Commonwealth", which is being prepared jointly with the Government of Saint Petersburg and which aims to develop the tourism potential of the CIS countries in all aspects, was presented to the MPs at the meeting.
