Meeting of IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Defense and Security Issues Took Place in Tavricheskiy Palace

The meeting of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Defense and Security Issues was held in the Tavricheskiy Palace – the headquarters of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

The event was attended by MPs from the Azerbaijan Republic, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, draft document developers and experts.

The participants considered draft amendments to the Model Law on Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and their Precursors, Recommendations on Improving and Harmonization of the CIS National Legislation on Analysis (Expertise) of Information Materials in Order to Identify Elements of Offences of Extremist and Terrorist Nature, as well as Recommendations on Organization of Law Enforcement and Forecast Monitoring of Legislation Impacts in the Field of National Security in the CIS Member Nations. It was decided to submit these drafts to the consideration of the plenary session of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Chair of the Commission, Deputy Chair of the Committee of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Defense Viktor Zavarzin, noted that the application of these draft Model Law will contribute to the harmonization of the legislature of the IPA CIS Member Nations.

The members of the Permanent Commission also considered the draft Recommendatory Typologies of New Crimes Committed with Use of Information Technologies.

The members of the Permanent Commission were informed on the international conference dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II and the conference on countering international terrorism, on the use of draft model laws on defense and security issues in the legislative activities of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Deputy Chair of the Committee of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Defense Viktor Zavarzin, was unanimously re-elected Chair of the Permanent Commission. Member of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia on Foreign Relations Gor Gevorgyan, and Member of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for Foreign Affairs and National Security Felix Yashkov were appointed Deputy Chairs.
