Issues of defense and security discussed in the Tavricheskiy Palace

The meeting of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Defense and Security took place in the IPA CIS headquarters.

The meeting brought together members of the Commission, as well as the senators of the Azerbaijan Republic, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, Republic of Tajikistan, sponsors of the draft document and experts.

Members of the Commission elected Adil Aliev, Member of the Milli Mejlis of the Azerbaijan Republic, and Eduard Sharmazanov, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, as Deputy Chairs of the Commission.

The meeting finalized the drafting of the Commentary on the Recommendations on the Improvement of the CIS Legislation on the Regulation of Liability for Border Security Violations , and the Glossary of Terms and Definitions, used by the CIS member nations in relation to border security issues.

Besides, the members of the Commission considered the joint initiatives with the partner international organizations (Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, OSCE Parliamentary Assembly), and supported the initiative of holding a joint conference of the PAM and the IPA CIS dedicated to countering terrorism.

After the meeting Chairman of the Commission Viktor Zavarzin noted that the issues of national and collective security, as well as the ways to improve the existing legislation in the CIS were high on the agenda of the Commission. He also mentioned that most of the model laws were reflected in the national legal frameworks which was the core purpose of the Commission's activities.
