Interparliamentary Contacts Between Russia and Kazakhstan Develop Dynamically, Says Valentina Matvienko

On 22 October, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko met with Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, member of the IPA CIS Council Dariga Nazarbayeva in Moscow.

Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council noted that the interparliamentary contacts between Russia and Kazakhstan were developing dynamically and played an important role in strengthening of economic and cultural areas of bilateral cooperation and development of interregional relations.

The Parties considered the issues related to the modernization of border infrastructure, ecology and humanitarian cooperation, including the joint efforts in preservation of historical memory of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the establishment of the Almaty branch of the Russian Center for Science and Culture, scientific cooperation and university exchange programmes.

Valentina Matvienko proposed to the Kazakhstan colleagues to join the preparation work for the International Conference on Inter-Ethnic and Inter-Religious Dialogue scheduled for 2022 and invited Dariga Nazarbayeva to co-chair the 3rd Eurasian Women’s Forum in 2021.

Dariga Nazarbayeva assured Valentina Matvienko that Kazakhstan aimed to further strengthen friendly relations and strategic partnership with Russia and noted intense Interparliamentary engagement of two countries, particularly within IPA CIS and CSTO.

Dariga Nazarbayeva awarded Valentina Matvienko with the 1st Class Order of Friendship (“Dostyk”) for the contribution to strengthening and development of bilateral relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation.
