IPA CIS autumn session kicks off in Tavricheskiy Palace

On 24-25 November 2016, the IPA CIS will hold its autumn session in its headquarters – the Tavricheskiy Palace in St. Petersburg, with about 30 bilateral meetings of heads of parliamentary delegations planned in its margins.

On 23 November, Speaker of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin held a meeting with Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ogtay Asadov, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Eduard Sharmazanov, Speaker of the Wolesi Jirga of the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the Russian Federation Emilio Ratmir Lozada Garcia, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Parliament of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and Speaker of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli Shukurjon Zuhurov. The parties discussed important issues of inter-parliamentary cooperation, as well as issues related to the exchange of experience in law-making.

On the same day Speaker of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli Shukurjon Zuhurov met with Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova Vladimir Vityuk. Shukurjon Zuhurov congratulated the citizens of the Republic of Moldova on the success of Presidential election held earlier. He noted: “Despite the fact that the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Tajikistan is geographically distant from each other, the commissions, attended by the parliamentarians of our countries are actively cooperating and will continue to do so in the future”. Vladimir Vityuk expressed hope for strengthening and development of international relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Tajikistan. The parties agreed on establishing an inter-parliamentary friendship group, as well as on the expansion of existing relationships.

In addition, Speaker of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli Shukurjon Zuhurov met with the Speaker of the Wolesi Jirga of the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi in the course of the day, while Speaker of Milli Majlis Ogtay Asadov held meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Parliament of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.

On 24 November, the IPA CIS Permanent Commissions, including on Practices of State-Building and Local Government, on Political Issues and International Cooperation, on Agrarian Policy, Natural Resources and Ecology, on Legal Issues, and on Science and Education, will hold their meetings in the Tavrichesky Palace.

A regular plenary session of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member Nations focusing on the issues related to the CIS education sector will take place on 25 November.
