IPA CIS Council Chairperson and Speaker of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan discussed development of inter-parliamentary ties

IPA CIS Council Chairperson Valentina Matvienko and Speaker of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan Akja Nurberdyeva met in Moscow to discuss the development of inter-parliamentary ties.

Valentina Matvienko emphasized that inter-parliamentary dialogue was stepping up, with senators coming together at various international events, including the platform offered by the IPA CIS.

IPA CIS Council Chairperson stressed the value of model laws developed by the IPA CIS and actively implemented to develop national laws. "We consider this area to be a priority to enhance cooperation", she added.

According to Speaker of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan exchange of best practices among MPs in the field of regional growth is critical. "We can cooperate in all areas", stressed Akja Nurberdyeva.

Drawing the outcomes of the meeting, Valentina Matvienko shared with the press that certain arrangements had been made regarding continued contacts through parliaments and exchange of law-making practices.
