IPA CIS Council Chairperson met with members of the IPU Evaluation Mission

The meeting of the IPA CIS Council Chairperson, Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko with members of the IPU Evaluation Mission on preparation and hosting the 137th IPU Assembly in 2017 took place in Moscow.

At the meeting, Valentina Matvienko stressed that St. Petersburg had an extensive track record of hosting major events including parliamentary congresses. She also mentioned that recently the IPA CIS had promoted its membership in the IPU to the level of an associate member.

Valentina Matvienko expressed the commitment of the Russian side to take all the necessary actions to host the Assembly with utmost care and quality, if a positive decision were taken.

Director of the IPU on Member Parliaments and Externa Relations Anda Filip and Conference Service Officer Sally-Anne Sader took part in the meeting.

Konstantin Kosachev, Chair of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Vice-President of IPU, presided at the meeting.

Just a day before coming to Moscow, the Mission had visited St. Petersburg and the IPA CIS headquarters in the Tavrichesky Palace where they met with IPA CIS Secretary General Alexey Sergeev.

At the 133th IPU Assembly in Geneva, Valentina Matvienko suggested hosting the 137th Assembly in St. Petersburg during the fall season of 2017. Later the matter was further discussed in the margins of the IPA CIS Spring Session on 19-20 May in St. Petersburg.
